It seems every day I hear another ten words or saying that I think to myself, I need to remember that for my blog. And of course, it doesn't get written down and I forget. Well the other day at church a woman was giving a lesson to the young women about preparing ourselves for the challenges of life, and I took scrupulous notes. Not just because it was a good lesson, but because I learned soooo many new words! BTW: They'd say learnt! I learnt so many new words!
Kit bag
Any guesses? --- Backpack, like for backpacking.
Gob-smacked?
Well, I think it meant surprised? I should ask someone to be sure. I liked it though.
Pinched
In context, "I think my daughter pinched my book." So, I assume it means stole, snatched, grabbed?
Wood Chips
No, not the ones we refer to occasionally as tanbark. In context she was relaying the story of the three little pigs. Well apparently the second pig built his house of wood chips? Who knew???? I always thought it was sticks.
Tin Opener
Well, you can figure that one out. It's just a can opener.
Swimming Costume
You should pack your Swimming Costume for the trip. I suppose they mean swimsuit or trunks. Which is really too bad, because to show up in a Spiderman Costume to the local leisure centre (they pronounce that Lay-szure center which means recreation center) might be much more amusing!
