Awe, a good road trip. All that quality family time!!!
Not so much these days! We get PROXIMITY time, but no family songs, games, or particularly great conversations.
In the same breath there's a whole lot less, "He's touching m?, I'm hungry? or Are we there yet?"

You don't often see directions that take you over a body of water without a bridge. NO BRIDGE! We drove followed our Google Map's Directions and drove our car onto a train that goes under the English Channel sea bed through a tunnel. Our directions looked something like this... 16. Slight right 0.3 mi 17. Take the train 302 ft 19. Take the Channel Tunnel train to FréthunEntering France 33.2 mi 20. Continue straight 436 ft |
This is a Channel Tunnel "ticket" And no! Janae is NOT driving, remember the steering wheel is on the RIGHT?!!
Inside the train!
Day 1: We hired a private guide to take the family to the various D-Day sites. Jacques, our 73 year old French guide took the family all over. I stayed behind at the hotel with Jaxon so that the rest of the family could actually enjoy their day. Jacques had them out for nearly 6 hours. He was 4 when France was under attack, he even was wounded and shared with my kids his scars. He had a satchel full of old black and white photos and articles that he shared with the kids. He took them to the American Cemetery, Saint Marie Eglise, Pointe du Hoc, Omaha Beach, Utah Beach. Only down side of the day....it was windy and FREEZING!
Day 2: Easter Sunday. We went to church and then Jason wanted me to see some of the sights. So they went back and took me and Jaxon. This is where the magic happens! Ya see, the funny thing was that these kids didn't even want to go with us to see the sites again. They were planning on hanging out at the hotel together instead. But eventually they all chose to join us. And once we were at these sights, the kids just came alive. They were the best tour guides ever! Jason would start explaining this and that about a particular site, but then a kid would jump in and correct him or add a caveat. This continued at each little stop, they were just full of information about D-day, the events, and sites. I was beside myself. What a great history lesson they had all just received. They were so engaged and excited to share all their new found knowledge! It was one of those brief but hugely rewarding moments as a parent. I just had a drink it up!
Day 3: We checked out the local town, grabbed some croissants from the boulangerie, and were off!
This is a video 360 view for you!
Back on the road!!!! This is what it looks like...
Can you believe Jaxon can sleep through this!

Listen for Jaxon singing along with the kids. They're listening to the same song on 4 different devices. And from the sound of it two of them started the song a second before the others. Well Jason always says, you can sing any song in a round. And trust me, the Tucker Family tries it all the time. Not at all worth sharing with the rest of the world, let me tell you.
Now there's a stack of Passports! Jason had the guy stamp all of them before leaving Paris! They loved us!
