If you recall from earlier posts, we now know what a "butty" is, it's a roll of some sort. And you may have already known that they call french fries "chips" here. Well, I was at a place eating and I watched some guy scoop up a bunch of french fries and shove it into his roll. I watched him chomp on this and it just looked like dry on top of dry. It did not look appetizing. I mentioned it to someone at church and they named it! They said, "Have you never had a chip nutty?" uh, no! Apparently it's a thing here, and a fairly common one, at that. So funny.

That reminds me of the mashed potato sandwiches I used to make when I was kid! (At least when I could get away with it.) They were so good! :)

I suppose "just french-fries" on a bun wasn't appetizing enough for Americans. In 1933 Primanti Bros. restaurants in Pittsburgh, PA started making sandwiches that truckers could grab and go. They added french fries along with quite a bit more. Check out the recipe below. You can invite your girlfriends over for an Americanized version of their not so flavorful crisps. (You may want to have a family home evening version for everyone at home to test-taste first). We've made them at home and they are delicious!
