It is CRAZY!!! I know time is running out on my mission but it does not feel like it is. Let me try to explain a little better. Two years is a long time. When you start you don't think that it will end. And you get so used to thinking that the end will never come that it seems more like a dream. For most of my mission it has felt like it has been going by really really fast for a really really long time. I know that sounds like an oxymoron, or a complete contradiction. But it you serve or have served you know how true that is.
This week I had a special assignment from President Ahlander and Elder Erickson to come to Vegas and install smoke/carbon monoxide detectors in all the missionary apartments. We got there about 1:30pm on Tuesday. That day, we installed eight, and the next day we installed 12. We also copied five keys for the office and the last day we did six sister missionary apartments with Elder Peterson from the office and two more the next morning and installed a curtain rod. So, I got to travel all around the mission and see a lot of people. Being in those old areas and going into apartments I haven't seen in a long time brought back so many memories. Even though some were empty, I remember the missionaries, my friends, most of which have been home for a long time. Yes, it has been a long time! The mission is not the same, and will continue to change, but the places I went to haven't. It's not hard for me, at least to look at a place and imagine the way things were, almost like a holograph. I see it the way it used to be like ghosts of my imagination overlapping what my eyes are seeing for a few moments, and it's like I got to turn back time and relive what is long gone.
I had cool a dream awhile back where I was looking at my life as this connected line where the times of major choices were the spheres and the effects of those choices were the lines between them. The cool thing was, in my dream, I could relive life to the degree that I could change my action and then have the opportunity to see how it would play out. I could put myself in one of those spheres or situations and control forward and back . If you stop to think about it, you could go back and respond how you wish you would have responded to a particular choice or situation. We all have things in life where we wonder how things would have turned out different. A part of me thinks in the Book of Life, we may have an option to see all the possibilities, and it may be a little like my dream, I don't know? It was a cool dream, I'll have to draw a picture of what it looked like.
Nicole is on a trip with her dad in California for her dad's surgery which is a good thing because he's a non-smoker and is strongly against smoking and wants her to quit. She's trying to quit. I should have more information next week. Speaking of which, please still email me next week (my last week). I'm not done until I'm home! I will be dropped off in Vegas before lunchtime and because of the new mission president, we're not doing a mission "prom" night, so I will be with some missionaries that day. Then they drop me off early the next morning at the mission office before I head to the airport, so it may be a pretty boring so the more emails the better!
Love y'all,
Elder Tucker
