Later last week, I was feeling a little tired of knocking doors. So I prayed that something crazy would happen. That I might have an uplifting experience and that I would make someone's day. About 20 minutes later we were driving the other elders home for the night when a car in the middle of a three-lane-road was stopped and had their hazard lights on. Well, the second we stopped, I knew I was going to be able to help!
The person could speak very little English. But, apparently, she was driving and the hood came flying up on her. The hood was bent, and only had one bolt, and no latch. So we drove across the street to a gas station about 50 yards away and got bunny cords. While we found a way to put the hood on, someone came over and asked if he could help. He had just done the speakers in his car and had lots of wires on it. He and I then were able to tuck and tie it to the frame and all the way across the hood. We got it tight, and fixed so that she could at least drive if for a couple of months.
We found out that the person whose car it was had been taking lessons from the missionaries and had not had them in a while because of transfers and a lack of communication. We gave her the contact infer for the elders in her area. We also talked to a less active in the parking lot who witness the whole thing. He was so impressed, that he took pictures and we also got him in contact with his missionaries. And then a man who asked how he can help, we gave him the first discussion and he took the pamphlet with our phone numbers in it.
I know my prayer was answered. It was crazy! I was able to make someone's day. It was great. And I even got greasy hands. I was so happy!
